Has anyone else noticed a lot of Semi trucks giving off a very strong radar signal?

As someone who runs a radar detector on long interstate stretches, I've noticed something lately that I haven't had a problem with before.

Usually, I get false alarms from radar-operated doors, and the occasional car with active cruise. On this last trip, though, the thing would not shut up. I couldn't figure out what was causing it until I noticed that every time, it seemed to coincide with an oncoming semi. More, when I passed a truck on my side, I'd occasionally get a very powerful spike that would continue until I was more than a half mile past the truck.

Have truckers suddenly adopted radar-assisted cruise control en masse? Is there some new mandated device? Anyone have any ideas? It's so weird that it would be so frequent (maybe 1 in 5 trucks) over such a relatively short time frame.

Couldn't tell you. Can't use radar detectors in VA

What band? I haven't noticed anything, but I have noticed new GMs giving off K band 24/7 and low-ish speed Volvos giving off a laser from the front.

I am due for a detector upgrade, but I haven't noticed this where I go

I've noticed a ton more cars emitting K-band recently. Even Kias are blasting it. I read that disabling the "POP" function helps. I've found myself ignoring the RD a lot...no bueno. I've been using the WAZE app lately and it hasn't disappointed.

Which blows chunks. I mean, there's even a cutout in the polarization film of my windshield for one, you bastards!

Most trucks have radars to tell their speeds and how close they are to cars in front of them.

maybe trucks that have a tracking device on them or a device that measures their speed? I'm not sure and I'm not all that much into radar so who knows if either of my options are plausible

I second this statement.

Makes sense on the Volvos. They must use something the detector thinks is laser for their automatic stop system, which I believe they've made standard on everything they sell from 2013 and up.

YES! My V1 goes off all of the time when near the local county maintenance trucks, plus with a large percentage of semis. I have yet to figure out why.

GM products have K band radar mirrors. Find them most often on Suburbans and GMC SUVs. They point to the rear of the car and are really bad if you are behind them. They aren't that bad if you can get in front of them, but chasing down a soccer mom running an inconsistent 80mph in a 65 through a couple of known speed traps to get the radar detector to shut up is really inconvenient.

Might have something to do with trailer tracking systems.

K band? I notice it mostly on a few Estes company tractor trailers. I've posted on some other forums and a lot of them seem to blame a bunch of old guys running 'radar jammers'. A jammer would blast full power on whatever frequency they are trying to jam, so it makes sense.

Yep, same experience across the board. GMCs are a guarantee, Suburbans seem 50/50.

I used to drive a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia. They have adaptive cruise control. It also monitors in front of you at all times to hit the brakes if someone stops infront of you suddenly, or pulls out in front of you. It was a little quirky if some one suddenly appeared in the outside lane in a curve, but great other wise. I drove all the way through Ft. Worth in 5 o'clock rush hour traffic and only had to touch a pedal 3 times. GREAT system. Some trucks also have lane change monitors too.

I think they have some sort of radar tracking. If you notice before weigh stations there are things that look like something electronic above the right lane leading up to the station.

Laser hits with new Volvo's.

And I have noticed a few K band light ups but no cops to be seen.

Can you just turn it off? (wouldn't know just possessing detectors is illegal here).

Can mute it, but if you loose the signal it goes back to full volume. Yes you can turn it off, but it defeats the purpose of having one.

Yes. I wasn't suggesting turning it off forever. Just until you're not behind said suburban.

I drive 90% interstate. I was behind them for 20+ minutes through 2 known speed traps.

Kinja'd!!!0

Well leave it on then. It really doesn't matter to me one way or the other. However if they are known traps...well you already know they are there. I sympathize though there is one 300 km +/- highway here that has a too low speed limit. It's annoying.

Went to Germany in September for 2 weeks. Every highway speed limit in the US is too slow. I felt pretty comfortable driving 220 km/h in a 320d wagon full of people and luggage. And there were significantly less wrecks on the roads in Frankfurt than there were in major US cities.

Highway 95 between Fallon Nevada and Las Vegas my Valentine 1 went off so far 12 times and I’m not even half way yet. ALL were semi trucks! Ka band, riDiculous! It’s starting to make using this a waste of time, kinda becoming pointless with all the truck traffic

I have a cobra 360 laser model number sfx6655 and I’ve also noticed alot of trucks giving off different verity of signals and had no idea I could be the cruise control on the doors thanks for the advise I thought it was from a scrambler or Rader detector in the semis

My prime Inc truck has radar controlled cruise control. It will adjust speed to the vehicle in front. I can also see the speed of that vehicle. On the front of truck is a radar emitter.
